About two weeks ago, Jonathan and I sat down with some friends of our to discuss many exciting things going on in our lives. We were seeking their guidance and spiritual wisdom on some decisions that needed to be made very soon. Leaving their house very encouraged we headed to Barnes & Noble's to have a "meeting"! We decided that evening (ready or not) we were going to move rapidly towards getting our house ready to sell before baby #6 arrives in late August! If you've ever been to our house, you may have noticed that we outgrew it a few kids ago!
We decided to have a "Men's Work Day" at the house the morning of July 4th. Having invited several men of the church we had hoped that at least one might show up ready and willing to help. Jonathan needed help with things such as fixing siding, mending the picket fence, and maybe some yard work too. Jonathan and his brother made plans to get prepped and ready on Tuesday night so first thing Wednesday morning they could get busy, busy, busy!
On Tuesday morning I had a well check up with my OB doctor. Mommy and baby looked great and we scheduled up my Cerclage removal for August 2nd! Later that evening, just before Jonathan got home, to my great surprise, my water broke! In God's divine providence, He planned it that Jonathan's brother would be here that very evening! Jonathan and I were able to leave immediately towards the hospital. Knowing that I had made it 32 weeks and that mommy and baby checked out okay earlier in the day, helped ease the emotions and doubt that could have easily overtaken me.
Since my Cerclage was still intact, they decided to put me on bed rest and monitor me until I was 34 weeks. After 34 weeks the risk for infection greatly increases for mother and baby when your water has been broken. So, on to bed rest I go! I joked with my doctor that I wanted him to let me go home but...knowing myself, I would not have sat down at all. He then told me that even if I lived in "Married Student Housing" on campus he still would have kept me there on bed rest.
Fast-forward to Friday morning. I began showing signs of infection (ie. low grade fever, tenderness, contractions, etc.) so they decided the time was NOW to get things rolling along! They got me to L&D, got the Cerclage out and started Pitocin. Throughtout the evening my temp continued to rise and once labor kicked in, I knew somthing had to be done. When they checked me and I was only at 5cm I requested an epidural. Looking back it was probably a good thing I had because my temp had risen to well over 104 degrees. Not only was I trying to labor naturally, I had to deal with chills and breathing issues. Once they gave me an epidural, I delivered soon after!

"Maggie" will be staying at UNC for approx. 7 days to finish up a round of antibiotics! There is one more infection they will test for today or tomorrow. If we are in the clear she should be home by the beginning of next week! Please pray for our family as we adjust to a new little one, putting the house on the market, and entertaining family and friends over the next few weeks. The kids are so very excited about this bundle of joy, and have already asked when we are going to have another one!
It's amazing to see God's handi-work and the preicous little lives that he sends us to care for.
